Part 5. The Republic Day of India
It was on 26th January, 1950 when the Government of India Act (enforced by the United Kingdom) was replaced with the official Constitution of India. Not only is the Indian Constitution the most extensive one in the world, it gives every citizen the freedom to speak and express themselves. The constitution was also the declaration of India’s “Purna Swaraj”, which means “complete independence”.
To celebrate this historic day, 26th January has been declared a National Holiday. The Indian flag is hosted at numerous places with the inclusion of several cultural events. The Republic Day parade is also one of the major attractions of the day.
